I am LinkedIN

Last week in class I signed up for LinkedIN. LinkedIN is a social website that connects professionals together. It basically is a huge networking website. This is a great idea for newly graduates or people trying to get into the work force. Networking is the number one tool in trying to find a job. People you may know, might know other people and they can help you get connected or "Linked" together.

I started my website and so far only have one connection. I am interested to see who I can get connected too. The website gave me a few recommendations but so far I do not know any of them. As for my page presence I still have some resume updating to do as well as making my profile complete. All and all I think I will continue to use this websites in hopes that I can find someone out there that could possible help me find a job!

VS Pink Changes Things Up

Recently I have been following TeamVSPink on Twitter. However the one day I log onto my twitter account to see whats new with the Pink collection. I am scrolling around and can not seem to find this twitter account. They changed the name to just VSPINK. A little confusing because it was making me wonder if they still changed the entire site. TeamVSPink was operated by two interns whose pictures were posted on the page. VSPINK however does not have any pictures of anything operating the page. The content is still the same. They are updating their fellow tweeters about new and upcoming deals. They also are letting them be the first to know about certain contests coming up. A recent tweet says that they basically want to receive 1 million followers. If they do then you and whoever you suggested will recieve a free gift. I think that is a great incentive.

To be honest I never understood why the page was called TeamVSPink to begin with. I thought it should just be VSPink. It makes a lot more since that way. This change is for the better because when looking for Victoria's Secrets on Twitter you can't find anything. VSPink is what I believe more people are familiar with. They recently have a facebook page as well so more people can follow them on that. I think at first VSPink was a little bit behind on the social media train, but they're catching up now.

Last night in class I learned how to properly use Google Analytics. This certain tool from Google helps businesses to track who exactly is logging on to your website and why they are on your website. It is a great idea for companies to use this tool because it gives them a chance to see if there site is getting any business. I can proudly say that I am using Googly Analytics on this very own blog. I will be able to see how many people actually read my blogs and see what key words are bringing them to my site. I think that is the fun part of all of this blogging. People make up blogs so they can get their voice out into the internet world. However some people may not know if anyone is visiting their site, Google Analtyics lets them see.

We also discussed User Generated Content also known as UGC. An example of UGC would be websites such as Google, Bing, Youtube and even Wikipedia. I am not a big fan of Bing because it is not that simple. I feel that there is too much stuff going on that I can never find what I am looking for. I like Google because it is simple and to the point. Wikipedia is also a UGC because people can go onto this site and basically add stuff to the "dictionary." One of the topics we discussed yesterday was when Shaun White won the Gold metal in the Olympics. 'Shaun White's information under Wikipedia changed almost instantly when he won the gold metal. This just shows how fast and easy it is to create your own UGC. Youtube is famous for this because without people posting videos then there would be no YouTube. Its amazing how this huge internet site became so popular simply by having people post their own videos.

Victorias Secrets Team PINK

I've been following TeamVSPINK on twitter now for about two weeks. This twitter account is constantly up to date. I would have to say it is one of the most interesting ones. They do not post all of information about deals but yet "teasers." They will say something such as, "find out who is performing in key west for spring break at VSPINK.com" This is a great way to get their followers on to the website. That way they could even shop around. They also have a good balance between comments from other twitter fans and their own official comments. I get very annoyed when I have to read a person twitter account and all it is, is a bunch of tweets from fans. I like to read official news. Also after reading some of the comments I am getting the impression that they are letting their fellow tweeters know when TeamVSPINK is coming to their college by saying have your resume ready. This could mean that they may be recruiting for the company which is a smart plan when recruiting Pink lovers. So far this twitter account has my attention.

Class Discussion on Youtube

Last night we went over how Youtube has influenced the world. Ordinary people can post their own home videos and basically become famous over night. I think it is incredible how many people actually post videos. It also is a great marketing scheme for companies to have customers post their own videos using their product. That way their name gets out to the public and they are involving their customers. That is a great marketing strategy. One of my most favorite videos is "dave after dentist".

A father and a son visited the dentist office. However the son was a little "high" from his dentist visit. Needless to say the father video recorded his son freaking out to the way he was feeling. A little insensitive, maybe. But the outcome of the product is priceless. Not only did the two become famous for their video post, but recently when watching Tosh.O on Comedy Central they were give a Web Redemption. This basically means the son is now in charge and going to video tape his dad doing stupid stuff. Youtube is a great way for anyone to get their name out to the public, and it also is a great way to pass the time, whether you are at work, in school, or just bored at home.

Social Media Class

I am really excited for my social media class because I want to find out how someone can get their "voice" out there on the internet. I think that social media marketing is a great way for companies nowadays to get there product or service out there to the public. With how technology is evolving companies really need to be on top of their game. They need to know what is hot and what is not. Online services are becoming more accessible to people, and I think it is only going to get greater in the future. This social media class will definitely teach me what tools I need in order to make a successful blog, and hopefully help me out when I do work for a company.
